A Soulful and Honest Single from Kennard

A new single release from Kennard delivers a very honest portrayal of relationships and how, when you meet someone that you feel like could be the real deal, you just want to know if they're in it as deep as you are.

It's a sentiment that a lot of us can relate to, especially if we've been in the situation. Is the other person being real, or are you just getting played? Are they going to turn around and change their mind, or do they feel the same?

The way he articulates his lyrics is so straightforward that it's incredibly connective and relatable. It's done in a very non-cryptic way. He also has some amazing lyrical phrases that are used together, giving the song a little bit of swagger.

You can tell there was a lot of thought and attention that went into not just the performance, but how the lyrics would come across, and how he wanted there to be that sense of vulnerability.

I think that takes a little bit of guts. To just come right out there and lay out a track that expresses so much of that inner thought that just comes spilling out for all to soak in.

It says a lot about a person, and for Kennard, it's obvious that he puts pieces of himself into his music.

He's kind of unafraid to go to the places that others may not go. And again, he does it in such a straightforward way that there's no confusion. None of this is metaphoric. It's right there, in your face, and that is one of the things I love about it.

"I Just Gotta Know" is saying things that we have wanted to say to certain people, but never actually did ourselves.

This was a kind of powerful song, and the performance was unbelievable. First of all, the whole thing is so incredibly smooth, and Kennard's voice itself just has this amazing, warm, and inviting tone to it.

You can hear all this emotion and passion behind the performance, and I feel like that's what makes the song so impactful in the first place.

Aside from that, though, he's got a lot of personality. It's the personality behind the track and how truthful he is that gives it character.

The character behind this single is also what you get attached to as well.

When you listen to the song, certain thoughts and even memories of your own will pop into your head because you think of your person, whether it's past or present.

This is all part of that connective element I was mentioning earlier.

This track blends a sort of neo-soul with a fresh R&B approach, but it also reaches back to some classic tones as well.

The R&B side of things is silky, and his voice is so rich, and it's tone that you really can't turn away from.

You can also tell he draws from certain kinds of jazz, classic soul, and vintage R&B, along with bringing in his own aesthetic.

There's another vocalist that comes in and kind of does call back vocals for a verse, and I really like that as well. It was like this other singer got a verse and was able to join in on the song to be the other person in the scenario.

When this part came in, it was almost theatrical. Just because then you have these two different sides going.

This is a single that absolutely gives you a lot to chew on, and the production is pretty pristine.

It's crisp and has a certain vibrancy to it, but again, it's also very warm and has a beautiful and forward-moving flow to it from beginning to end.

I definitely got caught up in this one and found myself listening to it quite a few times.

It's a track that has a strange way of reaching you.

As I mentioned before, a lot of it is in the performance as well. It's not just lyrics or performance, but it's the combination of those two elements that really bring this thing together, and because of those, a lot of the hooks and Soulful vocal runs end up sort of bouncing around in your head for hours after the song has ended.

The only way to satisfy that is to go and listen to it again.

Musically and instrumentally, the track is very lush and sort of full-bodied. It does have that polish to it, but it also has a lot of textures and tones that are layered in, so it gives the song a lot of depth.

The whole aesthetic of it creates a soundscape or an atmosphere, really.

This atmosphere sort of swims around in the air that surrounds you, and because of that, you get pulled into the track in a few different ways.

You can tell that this is an artist who is in love with his craft. When I say that, I don't just mean singing, but songwriting and performance in general.

He wants to put out songs that have messages and that he's pulling from someplace authentic.

I think those are some of the reasons why the song hits so well. You can hear the genuine undertone throughout the entire thing.

Upon listening to this track, I knew I wanted to find out more, so I reached out and asked Kennard some questions about the track, along with others.

I did want to find out what was coming up next for the artist as well, so while you listen to the single, be sure to read through our interview with Kennard below.
