The latest single release from Pearl Poet showcases a dazzling display of pop rock with a blend of electronic vastness in its undertone, which gives the song this atmosphere and spaciousness that pulls you in and wraps its arms around you.
"Frequency Gorgeous" has a shimmer to it. It shines with a vivacious brightness that comes through with a wonderfully textured approach between rock guitars and ambient synths, with these additional keys, bringing an almost vintage, 80s pop style to the track.
There's something almost fantastical about this song. Almost like it's an adventure of sorts, and when you listen to it, you take that journey as you attach yourself to the sounds.
This track has some progressive underbellies to it, and I love the changes and chords used throughout the song, along with these elements of overlaying guitar sections that are playing almost mathy lead parts that had such a great layer to the song and bring out that brightness even more.
Throughout all of this, you have vocals that feel like they're drenched in reverb effect, and they flow through the song, delivering these memorable melodies and harmonies, hooks, and tones that help build the song's aesthetic, and the whole thing feels theatrical in a way.
This is one of my favorite aspects about the track in general. That theatrical, cinematic shine that it gives off. That aesthetic is so evident, and it's one of the things that you get engulfed in when you listen to it.
The song also has an amazing way of growing from where it begins to where it ends.
It's quite a musical journey, so that growth makes perfect sense, and its overall arrangement is massive. This is a track, it's almost 5 minutes in length, and throughout it all, there are all kinds of amazing progressions, changes, arrangements, guitar work, vast vocals, a dreamy tonality, and when it's over, you sort of snap yourself back into reality again.
It's almost like a little bit of an escape. You escape into this track, and it feels good to do exactly that.
This is quite a progressive turn of events for Pearl Poet, whom we're not unfamiliar with. This project has always taken different turns and directions while keeping certain staples.
This track showcases a lot of heart and love for the craft of songwriting. Putting something big together so that it has not only an impact, but a sonic presence that's unique.
A unique sonic presence is one of the things Pearl Poet is known for.
That presence is always a little different with each new song released, and with this one, it's in the form of a pop-rock opus of sorts.
I can't begin to explain how cinematic this whole thing feels. I know I mentioned it earlier, but that vibe is so strong here, and I love it because the vastness from the synths, along with the crunch of some of the guitars and the almost outlandish lead guitar stuff that's going on, gives it so much color and energy.
As you listen to the track on fold, it feels like you absorb that energy and spirit.
It's a song that feels good when you listen to it. Again, fantastical is a great word to describe this one.
Listening to it causes visuals to pop up in your head, and they are indeed colorful, spacious, and adventurous.
I also really adore the fact that this is a pop-rock song with vocals that are dream-pop-oriented.
It's almost like listening to a rock opera in a way.
Or, a song from a rock opera, anyway.
This was beautifully done and with such great attention to detail, without ever losing the heart that it came from.
Take a deep dive into this track and swim through it, and remember where you heard it first.
