A new single by Matt DeAngelis has recently been released, and the song speaks volumes for the artist in his views of life and how we spend it. The single focus is a lot on aspects of our lives that we hold dear to us, but our materialistic at best.
The song revolves around the fact that those material possessions are going to get left behind, so perhaps we should focus a little bit more on the people that are around us. The love that we have, the relationships that we share, and the moments that make our lives special.
"Helpless To The Fire" is a pretty impactful track, portrayed in the form of somewhat of a power ballad that his piano focused but definitely includes some classic rock influence with amazing guitar work heading flavor and even more to chew on instrumentally.
I found this song kind of brave. This is simply because he's taking an aspect that a lot of us think about, only from time to time, but don't really know how to articulate that into words all the time.
Songs like this make us remember that it's the actual living of life that makes it so important and impactful. It's what we do with ourselves and how we can help others that makes us feel good, even if we don't realize it at the time.
Matt's vocal approach is very robust, but what he wants to, he can come through with a delicate approach, giving you amazing dynamic balance throughout the song and never really leaving the emotional impact behind.
As a matter of fact, it's kind of an emotional track if you really think about it, but also his performance. It's a passionate performance, which is nothing unusual for the artist, but this song has a heavy-handed sentiment that digs a little deeper than usual.
Some might look at this as a bit existential, and it is in a sense. It is about how we spend our lives and what we leave behind in death.
It's about relationships and time.
Now, this is how I interpreted the track. Others may take it in slightly differently because some of the lyrics are a little bit more universal, but for me, that sentiment was right in my face.
I definitely enjoyed how this track came across and how Matt is almost always able to put you in the moment with the song.
He does this often. Matt is the kind of artist who writes songs that can be very personal and come from his own perspective, but others, like this one, are for everyone.
These are the songs that make you think. It's not really about telling a story, but it's about giving a perspective.
Sometimes we need others to shed light on how we view things, and this is a perfect example of exactly that.
The song soon becomes very full-bodied. Organs fill any empty space and push that almost gospel-like emotion even further, while live percussion comes in, giving the song a hint of drive but really digging deeper into the pocket of the groove.
The song has an amazing way of building and growing into something bigger. Not just sonically, but also emotionally and lyrically.
We all need songs that make us think or feel. That's what artists like Matt are for. Again, other songs he has released in the past may not dig quite as deep, but they do share a lot of personality as he certainly puts pieces of himself into his music consistently.
That's also really important, just because songs like this feel so authentic that you need to know they came from an actual, genuine place.
Matt always delivers that. You know that these songs are coming from some place very real and that he utilizes his creativity in music to express himself to the maximum.
Don't get me wrong, the songs aren't over the top, but they're very well put together and always deliver a message.
If they're not delivering a direct message like this one, then they're telling a story, giving you a chapter in his life.
This single comes with quite a robust music video that really aligns itself with the single very well and gives you a little bit more character visually to focus on as the song plays through.
I would certainly suggest listening to the track for the first time by way of watching this video.
This was a wonderful new song that is Matt's ability to write something real, heartfelt, meaningful, and packed full, and still give you elements that stick with you musically.
Check this track out right now and remember what you heard it first.
