The latest release from Bernice Marsala certainly has a way of giving a strong sense of honesty and as she does so, she tells an incredibly relatable story and talks of coming out of her shell, being aware of her surroundings, and making a change that she needed.
"Irrelevant" seems like it comes from a bit of a broken relationship, but this is also what she needed to be able to realize her self-worth and grow a thicker skin if you will.
This track is so insanely understandable for so many of us who have been in these kinds of relationships where you took a while to level up and realize what you're actually worth.
To me, this is a beautiful thing because not only does it speak volumes for Bernice as an artist and as a person, but it shows that she's able to give pieces of herself in her music and for someone who understands where she's coming from may not feel so alone in that particular struggle.
All of this is delivered in the form of a pop song that has a combination of a new feel but also a sort of classic 90s alternative pop undertone at times even though it blends into a contemporary tonality and even incorporates strings that are orchestrated and give the song a massively cinematic feel at times.
There are a few little surprises around the corners, and I think that a song like this stands tall because she herself is standing tall in it.
This was a song she wrote for herself, and because she needed to get these things off her chest now that she is a bit of a different person.
I love songs that give this much character and personality because these are the elements that you end up getting attached to and these are the things that make you want more from artists like Bernice.
Things that show you that her music comes from real places and can at times service chapters in her own life but also feel like they can serve as chapters for parts of your life too.
I think that connection is awesome, and she does an outstanding job of delivering vocals that show and boost that character, that attitude, and her balance of subtlety and vivaciousness is perfection.
There's a great energy on this track throughout the whole thing and at times it feels like it's the energy of a live performance but really, it's just this feeling that you get when you listen to it because there is indeed some emotional drive in there of course.
The strings are done beautifully and add some great texture and layers to the song, the beat is what gives you a little bit of that 90s pop tonality, there's acoustic guitar, and beautiful vocals that are layered throughout the song giving it depth and a little bit of a vastness in the undertone of everything.
The song has heart and shows charisma, bravery, and someone who's not taking anyone's crap anymore.
Someone who felt irrelevant, now realizes she's completely relevant and always was.
Certainly, take a listen to this track as soon as you're able to and remember where you heard it first.
