A New Set of Singles from Mourning Coffee

Mourning Coffee returns with a set of songs that feel warm and welcoming in their own sense with this breezy tonality and blending an indie-pop and contemporary with jazz undertone sort of soundscape which really helps the record come across with some color.

The release is called We Are Love, and the first and title track is what really helps give that warmth.

The track features beautiful live percussion with rolling snares, vast sounding guitars, piano, and vocals that display some heart which all gives the record quite a thick personality and is something that you end up loving.

What are the things I love about how the vocals are tracked is that they're doubled at certain times. When the vocals are double tracked like that it adds a little extra layer to the song and it's soundscape which brings more depth to the track and lets you pay attention to the lyrics even more.

Has a song unfold you have some extra keys in there that bring a slightly vintage tonality to the plate and this is a pop-coated single that feels good to listen to either first thing in the morning, or right before you go to bed.

It puts you in a particular place because it's got a beautiful energy to it and such a natural flow that it's easy to get attached to.

The song feels personal and universal at the same time which is something I found to be refreshing to say the least. I love how there was a lot of attention to detail in the arrangement and composition of it because it does unfold wonderfully and again, natural feeling.

Towards the second half of the song you start getting some vocal harmonies and a lot bigger of an atmosphere which is something that sort of engulfs you in a good way and I love that aspect about it because when I hear contemporary pop songs of this nature, I want to be engulfed in them.

It's easy for this song to sort of surround you and alter your mood for the better.

Now, this is the first out of two tracks on this release and the second one is called "Love's Lament", which ranges from where it starts, which is a more stripped down folk style in the vein of artists like Elliott Smith, to a classic rock feel to the likes of artists like the Beatles for example.

This track has some outstanding guitar work all over it and really breeds a vast undertone and almost cinematic vibe because of all the effects that are on certain instruments.

There's a lot of reverb effect that lets everything come through nice and wet bringing out that expansive underbelly and the song has such a great almost intense change up from the stripped down folk style to the full-bodied pop rock approach.

Either way this is a song that really speaks volumes for the artist because it's huge. Again, this is an almost 10 minute long single and it really has a transformative factor to it.

It's a song that makes you feel and makes you think and in my opinion, we need a lot more music like that these days.

This is an example of a track that holds very little back and goes places that you really want it to go.

I feel like this track was really very well thought out and intricately put together but it still has loads of personality and loads of heart and again probably the most important thing about most of the releases from Mourning Coffee, in general.

There's always personality attached to them and this sense of connection that is created both musically and lyrically.

I found that to be quite beautiful and I would listen to these songs in order.

Both tracks display amazing song writing and attention to detail but also showcase the ability to create songs that sound big. Songs that have a growth to them. These songs start in one place and end up in another, especially "Love's Lament".

For a release that's only two songs long, this is quite a beautiful experience and I definitely suggest listening to this with headphones on as you should the rest of the material from the artist.

There's certainly plenty to be soaked in and plenty to offer but most certainly start with this release as it showcases some of the best staples that are portrayed from the project.

Take a listen to this release and I'm sure that you will have a great experience doing so. I certainly did.
