The new single release from Leisure Twins delivers quite a colorful and warm tonality in the form of a combination of vintage soundscapes and storytelling which both give the song loads of character you end up loving.
"Heaven and Ocean" is a track that you can listen to and get these bouts of nostalgia as it unfolds. The track was heavily influenced by a 1980s vintage sound and between the synths and the keys used along with the vocal approaches on the track, it is completely nailed.
They managed to come through with the aesthetic of something you might have heard when you were a kid and I absolutely love how you hear bits of synth-pop, vintage pop, and even new wave in there.
You can tell that there was a lot of attention to that kind of detail when the song was created and the way it comes through really lets this duo's presence shine throughout the song.
Not only was this completely danceable but it was also quite addictive. The choruses are memorable and stick around in your brain for a long time after they're over.
Some guitars give it that slight edginess along with the soiree of keys that bring that color. This too makes for an unbelievable combination especially if it's done right, which it certainly is here.
There are two sets of vocals throughout the track. The main vocal is performed by Dennis, the singer who, as it turns out, is also someone who works on a lot of the other instrumentation including guitars and drums, along with Tarabud on synths and backing vocals.
Now, when I say backing vocals, I don't just mean a few things here and there. She's laying down these flowy melodies that are consistent throughout the track and add a perfect layer to the entire thing that pushes the aesthetic even further.
Dennis does an unbelievable job of giving off that classic sort of '80s New Wave style approach and doubles his vocal tracks throughout the song which beefs it up a bit.
This was a very lush release. There are tons of layers that sort of come at you but in this bright and spirited form, so it feels good to soak this track in.
Now, this song will hit differently if you were a child of the 80s. I certainly am and, I can tell you right now that this single hit the full aesthetic exactly how it needed to. This is not a track that went for it and was slightly off the mark.
This track nailed every aspect of that aesthetic on the head perfectly.
The tonality, the charisma, the personality, the vibrancy, the instrumentation, and even the arrangement all has such a classic appeal.
As I said before, there was certainly attention paid to the details of how this song was laid out, but it still has that spirit and character throughout its course, and this is the main thing that you end up holding on to.
For me, not only was this nostalgic in a musical sense but also a cinematic one. I can picture this song in the scene of tons of films I grew up watching in the 1980s and I fiercely love this duo for taking on this approach and doing it wholeheartedly.
This was a well-woven and wonderful single that was put together by two people who have a love for their craft but also a love for music of a certain time and they've certainly sent this one off as a love letter to exactly that.
After hearing this track I'm certainly going to be paying a lot more attention to Leisure Twins and looking forward to whatever else they have to offer.
In the meantime, not only can you dive into this one, but they have a handful of singles released starting in 2021 that you can definitely check out on their Spotify, and I certainly suggest you do.
Check out the Leisure Twins catalog and remember where you heard this first.
