Sunbleached has released a brand-new EP and along with it comes a wonderfully classic 90s-style grunge soundscape that hits the aesthetic so well that these songs feel like tracks you've missed out on for a few decades now.
The I Crawled into the Hole EP features an amazing sonic drive coming from the guitars with a tone that is riddled with this chorus effect, and this is part of what brings you back to that nostalgic and classic sort of underground alternative and grunge feel.
This release boasts a ton of endless energy and the air of a live performance. The songs make you want to both jump around the room and sing along at the same time.
I adore the expansive and sort of vast undertone that the guitars deliver, and the drumming is just pounding and fierce the entire time, but the thing is it blends the genres somehow all from a similar time. But from different branches of rock.
For example, you hear plenty of Nirvana and Bush in the tone of this EP, but you also hear bands like Deftones in there too, so you get such a great combination of that '90s heavy and hard rock vibe and aesthetic. I just feel like it's a natural thing for this man because those are the kinds of bands that influence them.
To me, this releases like a love letter to those kinds of bands and even ones that are less or known like Hum or chore.
I grew up listening to this kind of stuff and I could tell you that this band has a real love for the genre and a love for the craft as well.
Not just the craft of playing guitar, drumming, bass, or singing, but rather the craft of writing songs together to create that vibe and that aesthetic.
A damn near perfect sonic wave of distortion comes at you throughout this release and to me, it doesn't only feel good, it feels welcoming and warm.
This is also because Sunbleached have nailed that soundscape so well that it still gives me the same feeling I got when I listened to those bands as a kid.
I feel like these guys are the kind of band you want to go see live on stage because their energy even on the record is ridiculous so seeing them live would be an awesome experience.
This is an EP that you don't want to miss any songs from. You want to listen to the whole thing from beginning to end and it's only about 15 minutes long or so.
This means, there's no excuse for you not to listen to this thing especially if you're a fan of classic grunge, alternative rock, or anything of that nature.
If it were 1996, these guys would be blown up already.
The vocal approach is awesome because it's gritty where it wants to be but mostly melodic and adds to the vast and almost shoegaze-style underbelly that some of the songs have as well.
This is a record you play nice and loud and by the second time through you'll find yourself singing along with certain sections with your fists in the air.
I'm happy to say that Sunbleached is a band that finally brought back grunge the right way.
But, have a listen for yourself and see exactly what I mean.
These guys totally crushed every aspect of it out of the sheer love and passion for doing it.
I want more of this band as soon as possible.
