A Lush New Release from Shampoo Tears

An EP release from Shampoo Tears delivers a robust and particular brand of honesty in the form of vast and expansive soundscapes that offer a blend of pop rock, dream pop, and even postpunk all blended into one record that has a way of creating an atmosphere that you end up falling right into but, once you're there, you don't want to leave.

The Title Wave EP is lush in its instrumentation and approach and so the songs come through incredibly full-bodied with these beautiful layers of texture that create a flowing and forward-moving feel so you're able to float right alongside these songs.

When I listen to this record, I can hear different influences coming through in certain sections of certain songs and I really enjoy that because it enables for some surprises around the corners and this record certainly does serve up some of those.

The guitar tones are key with this release because they sort of float and drift, drip and sway throughout this record's unfolding and this is part of how they are able to create this beautiful aesthetic and how it engulfs you and then enables you to just get washed away with everything by the end.

One of the things I adore about this record is the honesty that I mentioned earlier. These songs tend to get a little bit personal if you really listen to the lyrical content and this makes everything even more authentic because some of these songs actually have great emotional backbone to them.

There are little bits of drive here and there that push the songs further but all in all it feels like this music is just swimming around in the air that surrounds you and being able to swim along with it is quite a connective experience.

You can tell a lot of these songs certainly did come from someplace real and the standpoint is from particular perspectives and inner thoughts that come out.

The record also boasts a bit of a cinematic underbelly, and I feel like that has to do with how vast the songs actually are and how distanced they can feel at certain times.

You have a combination of acoustic and electric guitars but mostly electric. A lot of the time they are clean or slightly distorted but nothing over the top normally.

A lot of the instrumentation and even vocals have a great approach in performance but also this reverb effect and this is part of what makes everything feel so distanced and vast in the end.

The whole thing is beautifully performed, and I feel like what they were going for was completely nailed aesthetically because you can really feel things from this music and if you listen to the whole EP, which is exactly what you should be doing, then it becomes more of an experience than just a record.

Listening to a few songs from this release will give you a bit of a glimpse but will not give you the full spectrum of what the EP has to offer as a whole and that's important.

Again, there are layers to be peeled back here, and they made it enticing and alluring to do exactly that.

At times certain songs can pull up memories of your own and I feel like that's one of the more connective aspects of the record as well. This not only has to do with the lyrics, but also how the music and the lyrics work together.

This was a beautiful and gracefully performed release that really serves as an escape because it pulls you away from whatever you are doing and whatever you are, and it puts you into this entire other place for a chunk of time and I feel like that's just a gift musically.

It's not something that you get often. This was quite refreshing for me because I came out of it feeling a little bit different on the inside and maybe that's part of the purpose of a record like this one.

Everything is incredibly balanced tone-wise. Between the drumming, the vocals, the guitars, and the base, a lot was happening, and it all fell together naturally.

Take a deep dive into this EP as soon as you can and do it with headphones on so you can really soak in all the notes that are floating through the ethers of some of these tracks and really pick up on everything that's going on.

Remember where you heard it first.
