The new album release from Deithesis delivers a flurry of addictive and melodic guitar hooks along with a crunching metal soundscape that hits hard in a classic style and does so with an almost gothic edge to it that adds this little bit of haunt to the songs, but everything comes through with a heavy-handed punch and a killer drive that makes this record addicting.
The Equilibrium album is packed to the brim with memorable riffs and songs that you feel like you've been listening to on metal radio stations for years or even decades now and it's all done with this incredibly nailed aesthetic due to the vocal approach, songwriting approach and even guitar tone.
Everything this album is going for is completely nailed and some of the songs even have such a vivacious and driving energy that it feels like they were recorded live on the floor and the players involved were just feeding off of each other the entire time.
Even if the record was not recorded that way, listening to this album makes you want to go see these guys play it live simply because if that kind of energy was captured this well on a recording than seeing it performed live must be unreal.
The cross of old and new school metal styles is really relevant and the guitar work across this record is really what captures the essence of what everything is about.
The entire first track is an intro of harmonizing guitars that give you enough time to get ready for the rest of this massive opus of a metal record that's to come.
Listening to this album is more of an experience than just an album and at times yes, it can be very nostalgic especially if you listen to a lot of metal, but it also becomes an escape in a way, and you get drawn to the whole aesthetic and darkness of the vibe along with the electric energy that it gives off as it's playing.
You get such great drudgery and classic doomish kind of riffs throughout this record that a lot of those riffs are actually what ends up sticking in your head and bouncing around in there for hours or even days after the record has ended and the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to the songs again.
You have to love a record like that.
This is a classic sort of thrash and melodic metal record that rolls in different kinds of undertones throughout its course and you're getting at this great full-bodied record that you can certainly bang your head to the whole way through.
This is one of those records where you want to listen to the whole thing from beginning to end so you're not missing out on any of the songs or the spectrum of what it really has to offer.
The songs almost even seem connected at times so it can't feel like a concept record a lot as well.
This record packed just the perfect amount of punch with an incredibly well-balanced set of dynamics between melody, aggression, edginess, character, and theme.
If you are a fan of metal, especially classic style thrash metal, then this is definitely for you because it does have that attribute a lot, although again it does also keep to a doom-style feel as well half the time so it's giving you these different influences all rolled into one great record.
Definitely check this record out and again, listen to the whole thing through so you're getting a full spectrum of what it's all about, and don't be afraid to turn it up.
Remember where you heard it first.
