The new single release from Golden Vultures comes through with an amazing rootsy sort of swampy blues rock approach, and a lot of that comes from the tone and riff of those guitars.
This track boasts so much addictive energy that it's totally infectious, right from the start.
After it's count in, you have some amazing guitar riffs coming into play with two sets of guitars that sort of bounce off each other. This is sort of an introduction to the song, and it's a great one at that, simply because it is an amazing hook and it just pulls you right into the vibe and aesthetic of the whole thing.
There's something about the soulful approach to this song and the way the tones of the instruments come through that sort of puts you in the moment with the track itself.
The energy is balanced amazingly, and it feels almost like a live performance.
Perhaps they recorded this live on the floor, and everyone involved was just feeding off of each other's energies the entire time. I'm not sure, because I wasn't there, but it definitely makes you want to go see them perform it live when you listen to it on the record.
Being able to capture this kind of aesthetic and energy on record is sort of rare, and I think it also has to do with the sort of raw tonality of some of the instruments as well.
The track is called "Black & Blue", and it serves as a kind of ode to the fight that can be life itself.
It's kind of about how life throws punches at you, and you end up feeling black and blue from it. It's kind of rough and tough, and metaphorically speaking, hits the nail on the head simply because they're able to portray some of the aspects of how life can come at you and how you have to sort of fight your way through it all.
I love this aspect of it because it's depicted so well. It makes perfect sense, and I definitely dig how the music itself creates this perfect mood for the lyrics.
No matter what you have to go through, how hard it may be, you keep that promise to yourself that you're going to keep on going.
I think this is connective. I feel like a lot of people can really relate to where this track is coming from.
The drumming is a key element in this entire thing because it's so driving. It doesn't just sit in the pocket; it creates a sort of liveliness, and it does feel like a lot of the rest of the band pushes off of that often.
During the verses, the guitars bounce into a different riff but still sort of adjacent to the original, while the drums dumb down to just a great, driving kick and snare. This was all perfectly planned because it lets you pay attention to those lyrics and the vocal performance more.
The vocals give the song character and attitude. That's what it's all about. The vocals are performed in a way that lets that rough kind of attitude come through. The fighter in all of us.
It's not aggressive. It's about rising up past everything that's being aggressive against you. The vocals portray those lyrics with such a brilliant persona that it all falls together like puzzle pieces.
The track really bounces. There's a super bouncy sort of groove and rhythm to the entire thing, and at times, there's additional guitar stuff going on in the background, like winding bends that give it even more depth.
The choruses of this track are super robust, in your face, sort of bright in a sense, and really impactful.
I think this is because the song is a sort of anthem. It's got that aesthetic that gives you energy yourself. You can feed off of what you're hearing during this track, and I really enjoyed that because it's kind of a rare thing.
Now, the roots, blues aspect of it is pretty heavy-handed, and that's amplified with an amazing organ solo before the last chorus. This was something that really took over because the whole thing has very particular tonalities to it.
The way the guitars bend and have that soul, along with their tones, gives a bit of grit to the track. That organ solo builds on the classic rock influences, along with pushing even more soulful undertones.
That final chorus is just gigantic. It's full throttle, with everything going at once, so you can really soak it in. This is a sing-along, fists-in-the-air kind of single, and it's got as much color as it does edginess, charisma, and attitude.
I definitely dig a song with a message that makes sense and lets us remember that we're human and we can fight through the stuff that's thrown at us at times.
This is a track for everyone.
So, take a deep dive into this single when you can and don't be afraid to turn it up.
Remember where you heard it first.
