A new single release from Empty Seat has a way of bringing out a combination of alternative rock and blending it with helmets of postpunk, and plenty more along with delivering this sort of robust and colorful character that comes along with soul and just the right level of edginess.
"Take Back" hits with a four-on-the-floor style beat which really drives the song perfectly guitar tones, massive vocals, and more that lets this track come through with the vibrancy.
The song hits hard exactly where it needs to, but it also has a great dynamic balance to it as well so that you're able to get down with its groove and I think that's important because you have a track that not only has a great alt-rock edginess to it but an anthemic chorus and a deep-rooted groove that makes you want to dance. I find it very interesting that you have a track that you can head bang to, dance to, or sing along with.
That is sort of a rare combination honestly and when you do come across it it's rejuvenating in a strange way.
When you do sing along with this track which you will end up doing, you'll do it with your fists in the air because that's the kind of vibe this whole thing gives off.
In a way, they're like an arena rock band but sort of updated and current.
I definitely enjoyed the electric energy that this track gives off as well simply because it feels almost like a live performance would.
The players seem to be feeding off of each other the entire time giving the whole song This alive and breathing feeling not to mention, the arrangement is perfect for that too.
There's a natural forward-moving flow to this track but it never loses that edge that it packs.
The drumming is stellar, and the guitar work has a lot going on but also has a certain simplicity to it in a way. All of that lets the song have a sort of cinematic vastness and I really enjoyed that too.
This is the type of track that you go home singing in your head without even realizing it.
You end up humming that chorus melody and he finally realized that the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to the track again.
You have to love songs like that.
There's also this combination of old-school and new-school elements to this track. There is this classic rock influence in there along with the more edgy alternative rock feel and I think that brings a little bit of a rounded undertone to everything along with these Soulful vocals that are just belting out great melodies adding another texture on top of everything.
You can tell everyone in this band is having an absolute ball and if you can capture the kind of energy that they do on record then going to see them live must be amazing so after listening to this track it makes you want to go catch a performance.
Upon listening to this track, I took a little bit of a deep dive into the band's back catalog which was super fun because they have several releases under their belt that really showcase their different styles and approaches, that live-energy action, and plenty more each with a little bit of a different vibe.
Definitely check this single out but then, listen to some of their other singles including a new one that they have called "So Alive" that's excellent.
Most certainly do not be afraid to turn it up and remember where you heard it first
