A Four-Track Sampler from Arcane Asylum Is Here

ree

A brand new four-track sampler released from Arcane Asylum brings out some of the project's best work in certain cases.

This Colder EP touches on all kinds of immense levels of intensities, sonic soundscapes, and electronic instrumentation that not only feel heavily cinematic, a common staple for the project, but also deliver this edgy punch that feels slightly eerie and is edged with a dark tonality that you end up feeding into as you dig into their world.

The record opens up with "Silence In The Shadows", which definitely gives off this Industrial edginess, and within that landscape of sound, you also have a spacious kind of undertone that feels haunting in a way.

The way the sounds are shaped is really interesting. I feel like this is an artist who puts together new and outside-the-box approaches to sculpting sounds that are then input into the songs or pieces of music, I should say.

The reason I say that is because these come across almost like a classical piece. I consider these pieces of music and not just songs because they give a full experience with a range of emotions, a lot of the time.

This track displays a lot of the heavier-handed and more guttural, darker feel, and utilizes some amazing sounds to create that mood.

"Pulse" is the song that follows, and this has a different Vibe altogether.

The track starts with a warm and sort of bright and welcoming synth that delivers a little bit of color and vibrancy along with a brilliant melody that still feels cinematic but takes you in a different direction.

Amongst this, you have tremolo-affected synths, decimated tones, and still this edgy approach, but it's done in a pop-coated sense, so it has an alternate feel, especially in comparison with the first track.

This just goes to show you the range of influences that are touched upon in just two songs alone.

As this one unfolds, a lot of crazy and clanging percussion comes into play, leading into a heavier field, but still with the same colorful style brightness that it starts with.

I definitely love how it holds on to that spirit and color even as the percussion starts slamming and giving it that depth.

"Speedrunning" comes up next and this one has a beautifully electronic glitchy approach which is done damn near perfectly and certainly veers into that sharp tonality as the synth sounds are more tinny, a little more decimated, but still perform these dripping sort of melodies.

Probably the most intense of these tracks is its final one called "A Glimmer of Light".

This is a song that thrives off of some kind of emotional underbelly, and those emotions and climactic points of intensity come in waves throughout this track.

This one has a little bit of aggression in its feel and aesthetic because it's got this sort of distorted landscape of noise, which helps the song's tight grip but also gives it this sort of wide and expansive sound as well.

The song doesn't hold back from blending in classic electronic stuff, cinematic overtones, and again, inputting that emotional sensibility so that you can feel the song in a certain way.

All in all this was a hell of a sampler.

The release showcases and displays the way the project has a unique and avant-garde approach to composition while still holding on to those cinematic roots and bringing together some of the more edgy but beautiful elements of several genres that all create massive atmospheres and Aesthetics that pull you in and swallow you whole.

I would definitely check this one out, as this is a project that certainly keeps pumping out some amazing stuff, and if this is just a sampler, you can only imagine the rest of the releases they've had.

We actually don't have to. We're quite familiar with this project, and they've recently released a full album's worth of engulfing and outstanding material.

You should check out all of their stuff, but I would start with this one because it gives you a great feel for the project as a whole.

Remember where you heard it first.
