A new single release from Clean Out Louis brings out this vivacious and addictive, colorful pop-funk sort of vibe, and does so by bringing together elements of catchy vocal hooks along with warm but edgy synths and keys, and bringing on a lot of character.
"Hold Me" can be considered an indie pop track, but it really breaks boundaries with its shimmering and addictive soundscape.
One of the things I love about this song is that it's not over the top. The dynamic balance energy-wise is incredible, and it just boasts so many hooks vocally and musically, along with such an insane dance ability that you can't turn away from it.
It's got a warmth to it, but again, there's a little edginess as well that lurks just beneath the surface.
The track has these outstanding vocals. It's a lot to explain, but basically you have the main vocal track that gives you verses and choruses, while there are hooky vocals that bounce in between those sections, almost like 'callback singing'.
This is part of what makes the track so unique and so vivacious.
All the in-between vocal stuff or the 'callback vocals' is quirky, animated, fun, and coded with this colorful pop approach that makes things light-hearted and unique.
The main vocal track is super smooth and has a soulful kind of approach in a way. It still has this pop feel to it, but it lends a hand to elements of soul or R&B at times, while the track has a brightness and groove that makes you want to move your body.
This is a hard track not to dance to. If you're driving in the car, you'll be shaking your butt in the seat. It's that funk undertone I mentioned earlier that really helps drive that factor.
The track is all about bouncing. There are instruments like guitars that bounce in between the synth riffs, the vocals bounce in between each other, and there's never a dull moment because of it.
Because there's so much of that bounce back that it's a lot to take in but still super memorable and catchy.
Some of those vocal melodies and hooks just stick in your brain for hours or even days after the song has ended, and you have to listen to it again in order to satiate that feeling.
This is what I mean by addictive. It's an addictive track that calls you back to it.
I absolutely love that funk. The percussion is perfect, and the way that everything comes through texturally is amazing as well. There are layers of these textures between the synths, keys, beats, vocals, and bass guitar lines that create this kind of fun and vibrant atmosphere.
You can tell there was a lot of attention to detail when it came to creating this track and recording it, but it never loses that personality or character that it starts off with, and that may be the most important aspect of the whole thing.
It is riddled with character, which goes a long way in pop music.
This track is a little outside the box and built with fewer boundaries than the norm, which, of course, is something that we all look for even if we don't realize it.
We want to hear something fresh and new, but also be able to dance to it, sing along with it, or to an extent, get it stuck in our heads.
This single accomplishes all of that and more.
It's got a charm to it that's undeniable, and it only gets better the more you listen to it, which is a bit mind-boggling.
Upon listening to this track I took a little bit of a deep dive into the back catalog and I'm glad I did because there are so many tracks that are awesome.
A recent one released last year called "I'm In Love" showcases some of those similar staples in terms of bringing on unique synths and a little bit of funk, plenty of groove, and loads of Personality.
Another called "Foreigner" is also very danceable and showcases a particular presence.
So, I would start with "Hold Me" and then certainly check out the other tracks because if you like this one, you'll dig the others as well.
I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for these guys in hopes that they drop something new in the coming months, and I suggest you move the couch back in the living room and turn up the volume so you can dance.
Remember where you heard this first.
