A new single from Fashion Week delivers a very particular brand of honesty in the form of a pop-rock soundscape that feels sort of warm and welcoming in a way and I think that's because of how relatable it is to a lot of us and the character that's actually given off throughout this track.
"Unlucky" is a track not only about being unlucky of course, but more about how life itself is unpredictable and how sometimes you can look at others and view them as lucky well they're viewing themselves as unlucky.
Everyone has a different viewpoint on how they view themselves and others so if you take a step back and take a look at that it's a very interesting concept because you never know what another person is dealing with at any given moment.
I definitely love the sort of poppy vocal approach on this track because it's reminiscent of a little bit of pop-punk influence but the track itself doesn't fully go that direction.
There are other elements there like certain guitar parts but the whole thing is really a bit warmer and has a bigger, more indie and pop-rock vibe to it all in all.
I love the vocal approaches on this track in terms of some of the background vocals as well because they add a little bit more energy and emphasis to the track and the whole thing comes off feeling almost like a live performance in a way where all the players are feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.
I definitely dig that vibe because that kind of energy is a bit addictive and infectious.
The key to this track is that it doesn't overdo it. nothing is super over the top of that chorus is anthemic making it very memorable, so it's got impact but the song itself isn't ultra fuzz-toned or super distorted, it's not grunge, it's not heavy, it's just bright rock that really catches your ear and has as much color as it does edginess.
There's also the element of again, that honesty that delivers the personality. That makes it feel more personal and for me, it was just very relatable, and it made me think about how we perceive others and how others may perceive us.
This track sort of led me down a bit of a rabbit hole in terms of thinking about those aspects but I really enjoyed that because I like songs that make me think.
I also really loved how it was a combination of a sort of old school '90s radio style rock and a more current garage rock undertone too. The blending of those two soundscapes and textures really worked well.
The whole track came off sort of charming and there was just this great balance dynamically in terms of how hard it hit, having big hooks, and delivering that personal sort of honesty.
Those are just things you don't get all in one very often so here it was very refreshing.
You can hear the different classic influences kind of shining through here in terms of the guitar tones, and the refs, the vocal approach is, and all that.
I liked hearing those different influences come through in different parts of the song and you can tell this is done by a group of people who really have a love for their craft and when I say that I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean soak them in but also be able to sing along with them.
Everybody loves a good rock song that you can sing right along with and that's because they're memorable.
I feel like Fashion Week is the kind of band that delivers memorable songs that sort of stick with you and bounce around in your brain for hours after the song has ended.
Upon listening to this one, I of course i checked out some of their other stuff on Spotify and I'm really glad that I did because they released a number of outstanding releases in the past few years alone including a single from last year called paradox and an EP from 2022 that are both amazing and show a bit of a different side to the band songwriting and styles.
In 2015 on their Spotify account anyway, and if you listen to a lot of that you can really hear their evolution from then until now and how they've changed their sound over time.
When I find a really good band I love to do stuff like that and this is a perfect example.
Dive into this track when you can and then go backwards into their catalog because there's going to be a lot that you're going to enjoy especially if you like this track.
Don't be afraid to turn it up and remember where you heard it first.
