An Interview With Todd Barrow

The latest single release from Todd Barrow brings out a classic country rock soundscape that comes through with an honest undertone and lush instrumentation that all come together to create this atmosphere you really just want to stay in.

"My Girl Crush" hits with a ton of character and really lets the artist shine in terms of presence as he gives off hooks that stick in your head for hours after the song has ended.

This single has just about everything you'd want from a country rock Banger and it feels really good to listen to.

It definitely has this summer song feel to it and it can make memories of your own pop into your head at random which is a very unique and wonderful attribute to any song.

The guitar tones are spot on and you have these lap steel notes and chords that float through the background of the song giving it that extra drive and also adding this sort of cinematic experience to it.

By the end of the song, you're getting hit with powerful vocal harmonies that are just belted out along with vast guitar chords and an attitude that puts off the feeling that this song is an ode to his influences.

I love a song that has a good build and hits a heavy-handed chorus like this one does because it kind of gets your blood pumping but a song like this one also paints a picture and if you listen you can hear the full story.

Those two things together are what make this song so lovable and on top of that, even production-wise, this is incredibly radio-friendly and feels like you've been listening to it on the radio for a few years already.

Now, if you like this track which I'm sure you will, you should definitely take a deep dive into Todd's back catalog of releases on Spotify that date all the way back to 2011.

You can certainly hear the evolution in his songwriting and even singing style but it's got more than a handful of gems that stand on their own two feet as really good singles as well.

This is for mainstream country fans and songwriters alike because it's got lots of tempting attributes to it that make the song super alluring and again, it does feel like this sensational summer single that was heartfelt, and the aesthetic was completely nailed.

When you listen to certain songs you can tell that the artist has a love for what he does. A love for his craft.

This song is a perfect example of exactly that and with its release, we wanted to have a sit-down with Todd to find out where the song actually came from and what might be coming up next for the artist.

Here's what happened.

Buzz Slayers: Okay, let's start with "My Girl Crush" ! This track had those strong country roots and rocked out well! How did this single come about?

I was listening to a Taylor Swift song from her days with country music. At that moment I decided to write a song with a romance theme for cowboys and cowgirls.

Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you as an artist? When did you really get into making music?

It started at the age of five growing up in a musical family. Entered a talent show at the age of eight and won. Can't go wrong with Elvis hit "Hound Dog" then I knew I was destined to perform music.

Buzz Slayers: What kind of things really inspire songs for you?

My trigger points consist of themes, content and powerful melodies. Also the reason behind the song.

Buzz Slayers: This song has some great styles on it! Can you give us some of your biggest influences musically?

Well to mention a few Waylon Jennings, Glen Campbell, Eddie Rabbitt, Dolly Parton, Elvis, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard.

Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

I do a bit of freelancing and odd jobs. I also take on roles in various Films and TV series.

Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?

Ronnie Milsap another one of my favorite country artist.

Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?

I schedule a few now and then. Recently at Troy Aikman (Dallas Cowboys) bar at Texas Live!

Buzz Slayers: Did you record yourself or hit a big studio for this?

I record at SG studio here in Texas. Solid musicians, producers and engineers.

Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?

Working on a few movie scripts as well as new music projects.

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

It's all about YOU! I want to say thank you for believing in my music and continued support. Wishing you great success in your endeavors.
