An Interview With Kacey Fifield

A new release from Kacey Fifield gives off an anthemic and cinematic pop tonality with boat loads of heart and this sort of inspirational youthful energy that feels warming and crisp to listen to.

"Like Us" is absolutely refreshing and it boasts that summer sound with a heavy-handed beat, swelling synth pads, and retro keys that all melt together to create an atmosphere that Kacey gracefully brings her vocals to.

This single is powerful and has a deep groove that incorporates some edgy production but still manages to keep to this softer pop soundscape while that hook really digs in and seems to stick with you for ages.

She's got that presence that showcases her bright approach that hints to an air of mystery lurking just beneath the surface.

You can catch little touches of aggression in her previous release called "Toxic", and this is an artist creating music with less boundaries than normal.

Her range is outstanding, and she falls right into character for her songs.

The cool thing is that it all feels natural. Like she's just doing it no big deal. Making pop songs is like walking or talking for some people I suppose but from our end it's impactful.

"Like Us" is a sweet and welcoming single that sticks to that little bit of edginess and character that we've all come to know and love about her, and with this release, we wanted to have a chat with her.

Maybe we can find out more of where this single came from and even what may be next for her.

Here's what happened.

Buzz Slayers: Okay so let's start with "Like Us". This single has an uplifting undertone and feels very honest! Where did this track come from?

I worked with the incredibly talented producer Marin Hoxha for the track! Collaborating with him was an amazing experience because I feel that his track truly matched the message and vibe of my lyrics, which focus on the importance of uniqueness and feeling empowered despite your flaws.

Buzz Slayers: So how did this all begin for you? When did you fall in love with music really?

I've always always always loved singing and, even as a young child, I'd write random melodies and song lyrics. When I was 10, I started taking voice lessons and received the opportunity to record and release my first original single "When I Grow Up" with a music producer. The rest is history!

Buzz Slayers: Who is in your headphones right now?

I love listening to Conan Gray, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, Tate Mcrae, Gracie Abrams, and so many more incredible artists!

Buzz Slayers: What inspires you to write a song?

My own personal experiences and feelings often manifest into lyric ideas that come to me at random times. I get inspired to build songs around these ideas as well as other thoughts that I have!

Buzz Slayers: I'm hearing some great styles on this song. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

I'm pretty influenced by all of the aforementioned artists I listen to. I listen to them because I love their styles of music and, as an artist, I want to make music that I love so it's a no-brainer that my style is similar to that of my favorite artists! With my own unique twist, of course.

Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

I go to a regular school so I spend a lot of my time doing extracurriculars there like debate team, children's hospital aid club, and tutoring. I work with multiple activist groups like Farm Sanctuary and the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition to advocate against factory farms. I also love hanging out with friends and family, playing with my 4 rescue cats, and exercising!

Buzz Slayers: Would you say live performances are a big part of what you do?

Honestly, due to COVID, I haven't had the opportunity to do too many live performances lately! But, I've absolutely loved the ones that I have had the chance to do. It's always so amazing to connect with an audience through your music, being in the same room and just having fun together

Buzz Slayers: This single feels like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up-and-coming artists out there?

The entertainment industry as a whole is one that's incredibly difficult to break through in, so make sure that you truly love the path that you're pursuing. There will be a ton of obstacles but don't give up! Keep going after your goals and don't let anyone stop you :)

Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?

My debut album, Between the Lines, is dropping on September 30th and I couldn't be more excited! Can't wait for everyone to hear this body of work that I've been writing and singing for so long!!

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

Thank you so so much for your support! I truly can't explain how much everyone listening to my music means to me; it's incredible to know that people actually listen to my work and I can't thank you all enough for it.
