An Interview With Hagy Lane

A new single release from Hagy Lane brings out a cinematic and dark-edged opus that hits this alternative rock tonality but also fluctuates into these massive soundscapes that have the ability to swallow you whole.

" Amber Red Mother Earth" is heavy, hard-hitting, and showcases a ton of character and attitude with the delivery not only of the vocals but also of that guitar work and the way the percussion was put together as well.

This track definitely has the ability to engulf you and let you just sort of get washed away with everything but during the course of that you also get what's almost like visions and they come through vividly because the song paints a certain picture.

The sounds of melodic vocal harmonies swimming through heavy drudging guitars are something that comes across with harshness but also a sort of beauty as well and altogether the atmosphere is almost haunting.

You get caught up in the vocal melodies and the performance does have certain levels of smoothness but also grit which shows such a great dynamic in how the band does their thing.

Now, Hagy Lane seems to have teamed up with Richard Shaw and Annabelle Iratni for this one and it seems to have been quite an impressive collaboration between the performers because there's not much about this that doesn't leave you in a little bit of awe.

When this track is over you feel like you just watched a movie and you're stepping back out into the sunlight again out of the theater.

You sort of have to acclimate back to reality again and to have a single track be able to pull that off is pretty impressive.

This is like a form of escapism and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that in music. As a matter of fact, I think a lot of music should be used to escape, almost like a good book would be used in the same way.

And I think that also comes from that sort of cinematic tonality that the song boasts.

This was heavy but also lush and full-bodied which in combination just ends up floating in the air that surrounds you until you shake it off.

This was great for anyone that's into a driving and deep heavy alternative or metal sound but also for ones that love strong melody lines and hooks involved in that combination.

With the release of such a cool single, we wanted to have a sit-down with Hagy Lane to find out how this all came to be and what might be coming up next.

Here's what went down.

Buzz Slayers: Okay guys, let's start with "Amber Red Mother Earth". This single has an alternative and metal undertone but was also heavily cinematic and impactful! How did this track come about?

Amber Red Mother Earth was wrote in the early 2000s It was a song about a defiance to organized religion and it speaks out "I don't need a church or minister to have a spiritual path"

Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you guys as a band?

Hagy Lane was conceived in 1997 with Drakka writing material from home. In 2000, 2 song demos were made and distributed through friends with very positive feedback. At that time Drakka was living in Harrisburg, Pa. HAGY LANE is a place outside of Harrisburg, which has a very spooky, ominous feel to it. It was also the address to a warehouse that one of his old bands rehearsed at, therefore Hagy Lane was chosen for the band name. As time permitted Drakka continued to write and was able to enter the studio early 2006 and 2007. Drakka recorded an EP titled “In The Beginning” which received positive reviews, but due to a very young family Drakka was forced to put the project on hold. Since then he has been diligently working on a library of songs. At present the band is based in London On.

Buzz Slayers: What kind of things really inspire songs for you?

In late 2019, Drakka picked up his pen and guitar and began writing again. Children Of Chaos, another Ep was released in 2021. The Ep featured Tim Skold, Nero Bellum, and Kristof Bathory, all volunteering to help with ghost production. In 2022 several singles were released from the archives, and in the summer of 2022 Drakka welcomed into the fold Cr0n3.xxy. This hagrid woman will be performing keys and sharing lead vocals with Drakka live. She has also been included in the writing and arrangements of new tracks which have not been released. Over the past few months more singles have been written, coming Feb. 14th/ 2023, Amber Red, Mother Earth will be released featuring Richard Shaw and Anabelle Iratni. Hagy Lane has many goals to come in the future and looks to enter into every home.... Buzz Slayers: This single has some great styles combinations on it! Can you give us some of your biggest influences musically?

I get my inspiration for songs based on what I am experiencing in my journey of life. I rely on my heart to guide when writing the lyrics specifically.

Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

Vocally my influences include Alice n chains, love the harmonies from the late Staley and Jerry Cantrell. I also thoroughly enjoy the band GHOST! Musically I want to say Rammstein , NIN, and Gojira are huge influencers too.Honourable mentions are Behemoth, Cradle of filth, and Rotting Christ.

Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?

When not doing music I like to fish and love watching educational videos from youtube channels such as Field Days. I also like to watch Paranormal tv series.

Buzz Slayers: Are you guys doing any live performances right now?

Ghost, Spiritbox, and to break up the sound classics such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac and more...

Buzz Slayers: Are you guys doing any live performances right now?

We are not performing live presently and in the process of recruiting live artists. Priority 1 is finding a live drummer but also a guitarist and possibly a bassist. With all the complications of the pandemic it has been more productive to stay home and write and release content.

Buzz Slayers: Did you record this yourself or hit a big studio for this?

Although I record most of the material at my home studio but have a couple commercial studios I work with also.

Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?

We plan on being out live very soon as we recruit live artists then possibly a tour with bands we network with from the USA.

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

I hope the tracks not only uplift the audience but make the fans aware that the material reflects my struggles in life. Doing this is about self reflection but also is therapy to me also. #mentalhealthawareness.
